I’m Gavin Auty.
A strategic design partner to organisations open to the possibility that design can help organisations unlock opportunity and realise potential.
Strategic Thinker
Creative Director
Design Leader
I use visual design and communication to create brands, campaigns and experiences that help organisations connect with customers, staff, investors and stakeholders.
And I help founders and leaders understand and utilise design as a mindset and toolkit to create, pivot, change, challenge, accelerate and progress their business.
If that sounds interesting, let’s connect.
My Services.
I design brand identities and systems that help businesses attract people, grow revenues and generally punch above their weight.

I also advise, guide and support a select number of clients, helping them integrate design as a core business tool.
My mission.
Better
by
design.
It can align teams, sharpen positioning, open new revenue streams, and create meaningful connections with customers.
By reframing what design is and the role it plays, we can unlock untapped potential, uncover new opportunities, and drive real, measurable impact.
→ Build your brand → Drive your growth → Expand your market → Align your culture → Attract new talent → Excite new customers → Engage your stakeholders
→ Unlock doors → Root out problems → Discover opportunities → Connect people → Make money → Grow market share → Align culture, → Excite consumers → Rally teams → Attract talent →
My experience as a designer and creative thinker has shown me that design is so much more than just a visual output—it’s a way of thinking, solving problems, and shaping the future.
When we stop seeing design as just ‘how things look’ and start recognising it as a strategic tool, it becomes a powerful force for business growth.
My design principles.
PRINCIPLES
Whatever I work on and whoever I work for, I always centre my approach around these 3 principles:
-
Seeing beyond the obvious. Connecting the dots. Finding new angles and untapped opportunities.
-
Cutting through the noise. Sharpening the message. Making complex things simple, not simplistic.
-
Ideas that do more. Design that works harder. Creativity that isn’t just beautiful but effective.

My (balanced) approach.
Seven principles that shape my approach and help me navigate complexity without getting lost in it. Because the best work doesn’t just look good; it works hard and thinks smart.

Clear thinking.
Straight talking.
No fluff, no jargon. Complexity kills progress. So let’s cut through the noise, get to the point and keep things moving.
Move fast.
Think slow.
Action gets results, but strategy makes them meaningful. Momentum matters, but thoughtful decisions prevent wasted effort.
See the whole.
Sweat the detail.
Vision without precision is just a nice idea. The best work balances grand ambition with meticulous execution.
Dream Big.
Act Small.
Bold ideas start with small, deliberate moves. Real change happens when vision meets consistency and adaptability.
Embracing chaos.
Making magic.
Simplicity isn’t about stripping things back to nothing—it’s about finding clarity in complexity. The best ideas make the intricate feel effortless.
Head in the clouds.
Feet on the ground.
Big ideas need structure to stand tall. Ambition thrives when it’s built in reality, on solid ground, with honest and integrity.
Deep roots.
Wide reach.
Ideas that connect come from within—grounded in truth, not trends. Start with what’s real, shape it with intention, and grow it with confidence.
I’ve won ZERO awards.
Google are NOT a client.
I DON’T talk at conferences.
I haven’t written any e-book’s.
What I do have is over 20 years design experience across a range of creative disciplines and with a range of clients and industries.
So whilst I did once design a flyer for Google, I’m not going to claim they’re a client. I have worked closely with lots of smaller and medium sized businesses who care about what they do and have modest ambitions (but don’t expect to float anytime soon).
I’ve seen first hand the impact design can have when leaders and businesses fully embrace design. And I often help them bridge the gap between the world of business and design; translating the lingo, joining the dots, clarifying the confusion.
I enable teams and leaders to find the clarity, perspective, focus and action that empowers their decision-making and moves them closer to the positive outcomes they’re hoping to achieve.
I take a hands on approach, enjoy getting my hands dirty, being part of the team and always bring 100% to the table. I want to a positive catalyst with can-do energy but I’m not afraid to speak up and be the critical (sometimes brutal) friend that you might need, holding hands where I need to.
The aim is that the world of design and business collide in a good way.
My experience.
My clients are real.
Dream it
Build it
Sell it
Grow it
My challenge to you.
But I see design as a toolkit that can be applied to pretty much anything so don’t be shy to talk to me about something interesting. I’m also curious to hear from other professionals who work with design, even if it’s not labelled as such.
Hit me up

If you think good design is expensive, consider the cost of bad design.
My personality.
I bridge the gap between worlds, translating the lingo, joining the dots, clarifying the confusion, holding hands where I need to. The aim is that these two worlds collide in a good way, but that’s not always the case especially if they don’t see eye to eye.
